I need distraction in order to maintain consistency. I can’t be alone to linger in repetitive thoughts, especially when being creative. I need music and conversation and weed and coffee and movies and something cute to look at. All these things at once are ingredients to a recipe that I still have a hard time explaining.
I was spoiled in my 20’s. I lived in a house full of artists and misfits, and all we did was distract and create. The type of creation that comes from clashing vibrations and centering yourself inside of those vibrations when the time is right. Settling into it enough to really dig a gem out. A piece of you that requires care and insight before it ever makes its journey from mind to paper. Then when executed and perfected and performed it was praised and admired, and in the best of times, fed off of.
The cuties were everywhere all the time and I had no idea where from. Just the gravity of the house and the inspiration within brought all sorts of beautiful people. They came and went but always left some kind of inspiration behind. They love to be impressed and we love to impress. I swear I’ve never seen man better then when he’s trying to get a certain someone’s attention. Men have accomplished many great things in the name of women and the idea of love. It’s just human nature.
We played rap instrumentals constantly but there was always some kind of music, music videos, movies, anime, sports, Madden, whatever anyone happen to put on. YouTube was an endless source of inspiration. The noise and reactions from the noise and the discussions about the noise just created more noise and soon it was constructed artistic chaos. It was alive. By 10 am we were basking in the creation of our own society. Like ancient Romans, we built an empire that reflected who we were and wanted to be all at once. Set examples for anyone who was lucky enough to come and experience this world of freedom and expression.
In that environment, I definitely encountered true creative genius at work and have come to realize it’s everywhere all the time as well. We all have it in us and are constantly feeling it in our everyday lives. Some just don’t know what it is and have never found their medium. Never carved out one of these gems embedded in our souls and really took the time to gaze into its beauty.
Art is the constructive process of mining the pieces of ourselves that truly help us see life for what it is or can be. Some don’t see it as that and some expect more from it than what it is. I don’t think either is right or wrong, or wrong a false hope of what can be right. We examine these gems in our own lights and find meaning in our own ways. Art is not something to be defined as music or paint or words. Art is more or less a feeling and through that feeling we create, love, hate, strive and fall, but most of all we learn from it. Good or bad we take what it gives us.
As I get older, I see the importance of proper distraction. I see the need for constant movement in all forms. When you prepare for sparks of creativity it kind of negates the point. I think creativity is an energy and is all around us all the time. But to align with said energy is the true process of extraction. To capture this feeling and allow it to engage with our creative mindset and let them dance and define something beautiful. Those are the moments that create divinity and poetry. Those are the moments that make life worth it.
